Rat Hammocks: Choosing a Hanging Bed

A hammock can give rats another sheltered place to rest. Start with the cage space, the rats using it and how you will reach it for checking and cleaning.

Choose a position

Check that the cage has suitable attachment points and that every rat can reach the hammock and leave it easily. Allow clear space around the entrance. Consider a lower position for a rat that finds climbing difficult, and avoid creating a long fall beneath it.

Check fittings and condition

Before adding a hammock, compare its fittings with your cage. Inspect the attachment points and any fabric regularly; remove the piece if fittings become loose, or fabric is damaged or heavily chewed. Follow the specific product’s care instructions and let it dry before returning it to the cage.

Compare a hammock and a hide

A hanging bed uses space above the floor, while a lower hide gives a sheltered place closer to the base. Your rats may use different resting places at different times. Leave room for clear routes to food, water and other parts of the cage.

Our Cloud Rat Hammock & Hide has four-point cage fittings and a fleece lining; it can also be positioned lower. The product page explains its fitting and care details. Confirm fit with us before ordering if you need a measured size. Compare rat hides and houses and cage shelves too.
