What Size Urn for a Cat?

The short answer: most cats weigh 3 to 6 kg (7 to 13 lb), so they need about 7 to 13 cubic inches of space, around 0.1 to 0.2 litres. On our urns that come in three sizes, Small-Medium, for pets up to 15 kg, is the size for almost any cat.

How the size is worked out

Allow about 1 cubic inch of space for each pound your cat weighed before cremation. Use their healthy, usual weight, and if they were a big cat, go by their real weight rather than an average.

Our urns for cats

Our personalised cat urn, a seated portrait shaped from your photographs, and our minimalist modernist cat urn, a quiet fixed design, each come in one size. Tell us the volume of the ashes and we will confirm it suits before you order.

Our pet portrait urn, collar urn and canopic jar urn can all be made for a cat, in these sizes:

  • Small-Medium: for pets up to 15 kg
  • Medium-Large: for pets up to 30 kg
  • Extra Large: for pets up to 40 kg

These weight bands are the same on our dog portrait, pet portrait, wrapped, collar and canopic jar urns. As one example of size, our canopic jar urn stands approx. 231 mm, 270 mm and 309 mm tall in the three sizes. The bands are a choosing guide, not a measured volume, so if you know the volume of the ashes, tell us and we will confirm the size before you order.

Tips

  • If your crematorium gave you the volume of the ashes, use that instead.
  • Sharing the ashes between family members? Size each urn for the part being kept.
