What Size Urn for a Cocker Spaniel?
Updated November 2026.
The short answer: size a cocker spaniel's urn by their usual, healthy weight. Most cocker spaniels fall in our Small–Medium size, for pets up to 15 kg. A cocker who weighed more than 15 kg should choose Medium–Large, for pets up to 30 kg. For a cocker spaniel heavier than 40 kg, message us before you order.

What size urn does a cocker spaniel need?
Breed guides and vet clinics usually give a typical adult range for a cocker spaniel of about 12 to 15 kg (26 to 33 lb). That puts most cockers inside our Small–Medium size, which is for pets up to 15 kg. The catch is that cockers love their food and a much-loved house cocker can sit above the range. If yours was on the heavier side, check the weight before you choose.
How much space do a cocker spaniel's ashes need?
The common rule is about 1 cubic inch of space for each pound your dog weighed. It is a guide, not a measured volume.
- 12 kg (26 lb): about 26 cubic inches, roughly 430 ml
- 15 kg (33 lb): about 33 cubic inches, roughly 540 ml
- 18 kg (40 lb): about 40 cubic inches, roughly 650 ml
If the crematorium told you the volume of the ashes, use that figure instead and tell us.
Which of our sizes fits a cocker spaniel?
| Our size | Pet's usual weight | Rough ashes volume (guide) | Canopic jar urn, approx. outer size (W x D x H) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small–Medium | up to 15 kg (33 lb) | up to about 33 cubic inches, roughly 540 ml | 120 x 154 x 231 mm |
| Medium–Large | up to 30 kg (66 lb) | about 66 cubic inches, roughly 1.1 litres | 140 x 180 x 270 mm |
| Extra Large | up to 40 kg (88 lb) | about 88 cubic inches, roughly 1.4 litres | 160 x 206 x 309 mm |
A cocker above 15 kg, or one who was between sizes, should go up to Medium–Large. If you want an urn for a shelf or a ledge, check the outside measurements of the style you like before you decide.
Cocker crosses and mixes
The range above is for the cocker spaniel as it is usually described in breed guides. The many crossbreeds with cocker in them, such as the cockapoo, can be lighter or heavier. For a cocker mix, go by the weight on the scales, not by the breed on the paperwork. Our cockapoo urn size guide covers that cross.
Tips before you order
- Use the weight your dog was when healthy. If they lost weight towards the end, their usual weight is the better guide.
- If the crematorium gave you the volume of the ashes, use that figure and tell us before you order.
- Between two sizes? Go up. A little space is better than too little.
- Never use the outside measurements as the space inside: tell us the volume you need and we will confirm the size.
Urn styles for a cocker spaniel
A cocker's long, silky ears and soft expression are the first things people mention when they describe their dog. Our portrait urns are shaped from your own photographs, so the ears, the muzzle and the way they tilted their head are what we work from. Send a clear face-on photo in daylight and a side view to start.
- Custom dog portrait urn: a seated portrait shaped from one to five of your photographs, in chalk off-white, with a black plug closing the opening underneath.
- Collar urn: made to hold their own collar beside the portrait. Tell us the fastened circumference and strap width when you order.
- Wrapped pet urn: your dog's face held by curved, overlapping forms.
- Personalised canopic jar urn: black with antique-gold details, a portrait lid and your dog's name on the front. The lid rests on the jar without a seal.

Every White Doe dog urn is cast stone, finished by hand and made to order, with free tracked delivery in the UK and worldwide. For portrait styles you send one to five clear photographs and we share a digital proof before anything is made. The portrait, collar and wrapped urns are for indoors on a steady shelf, mantel or sideboard; the canopic jar can also sit in a sheltered outdoor spot. Support any urn underneath with both hands when you lift it.
Calculator and related guides
Our urn size calculator takes the weight in kilograms or pounds and shows the size. The full range is in pet urns for ashes. For bigger dogs, see the Labrador urn size guide, and for a small dog the small dog urn size guide. How to choose a pet urn helps with style.

How much does a cocker spaniel weigh?
Breed guides usually give about 12 to 15 kg (26 to 33 lb) for an adult. Your own dog's usual, healthy weight is a better guide than the breed range.

Go by the weight on the scales. Over 15 kg is Medium–Large. If you are unsure, go up a size.
Is a cocker spaniel urn different from a cockapoo urn?
The same three weight bands apply to both. See the cockapoo guide if your dog was a cross.
Can the urn look like my cocker?
Yes. The custom dog portrait urn is shaped from one to five of your photographs, and we send a digital proof before making.
