What Size Urn for a Labrador?
The short answer: size a Labrador's urn by their healthy weight. If they weighed up to 30 kg, choose our Medium-Large urn. If they weighed between 30 and 40 kg, choose our Extra Large urn. Our largest size is for pets up to 40 kg, so if your Labrador weighed more, message us before you order.
How the size is worked out
Allow about 1 cubic inch of space for each pound your dog weighed before cremation. So a 30 kg (66 lb) Labrador needs about 66 cubic inches, roughly 1.1 litres, and a 40 kg (88 lb) Labrador about 88 cubic inches, roughly 1.4 litres.
Our sizes
- Small-Medium: for pets up to 15 kg
- Medium-Large: for pets up to 30 kg
- Extra Large: for pets up to 40 kg
These weight bands are the same on our dog portrait, pet portrait, wrapped, collar and canopic jar urns. As one example of size, our canopic jar urn stands approx. 231 mm, 270 mm and 309 mm tall in the three sizes. The bands are a choosing guide, not a measured volume, so if you know the volume of the ashes, tell us and we will confirm the size before you order.
Tips
- Use their usual, healthy weight. If they lost weight towards the end, their usual weight is a better guide.
- Between two sizes? Go up. A little space is better than too little.
- If your crematorium gave you the volume of the ashes, use that instead.
