Dog Urns for Ashes
Updated November 2026.
Some dogs are remembered in a favourite photograph, others in the collar by the door. A dog urn gives their ashes a quiet, safe place and keeps that familiar presence close. Every White Doe dog urn is cast stone and shaped as a portrait of your own dog from your photographs, in three sizes by your dog's weight.

What size urn does my dog need?
Size a dog urn by your dog's usual, healthy weight. The common guide is about 1 cubic inch of space for each pound your dog weighed. It is a guide, not a measured volume, so if the crematorium told you the volume of the ashes, use that figure.
| Your dog's usual weight | Rough ashes volume (guide) | Our size | Breeds often in this band |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 15 kg (33 lb) | up to about 33 cubic inches, roughly 540 ml | Small–Medium | Jack Russell, Dachshund, French Bulldog, Westie |
| 15 to 30 kg (33 to 66 lb) | about 33 to 66 cubic inches, roughly 540 ml to 1.1 litres | Medium–Large | Staffie, Cocker Spaniel, Springer Spaniel, Border Collie, Cockapoo |
| 30 to 40 kg (66 to 88 lb) | about 66 to 88 cubic inches, roughly 1.1 to 1.4 litres | Extra Large | Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd |
| Over 40 kg | over 88 cubic inches | Message us first | Rottweiler, Great Dane, Newfoundland |
Dogs vary a lot within a breed, so go by your own dog's weight rather than the breed. Between two sizes? Go up. Our urn size calculator does the sum in kilograms or pounds, and our guides for a small dog, a 30 kg dog and a large dog go into more detail. Please don't use the outside measurements as the space inside: tell us the volume you need and we will confirm the size before you order.
A dog urn for any breed, shaped from your photos
Most shops sell dog urns "by breed": one ready-made Labrador, one ready-made Spaniel. Ours work the other way round. You send one to five clear photographs and tell us anything that matters, the tilt of an ear, a grey muzzle, the way they sat. We shape the portrait from your photos and send you a digital proof before making, so you see it first. Crossbreeds, rescues and one-of-a-kind faces are just as welcome as pedigrees.

Photos that help
- One clear face-on photo in good daylight, with the eyes sharp.
- One side view, so we can see the line of the nose and ears.
- Anything that shows the coat or markings you love most.
- Older or slightly blurry photos still help. Send what you have and we will tell you if we need more.
Keeping their collar with them
For many people the collar is the thing they can't put away. Our collar urn is made to hold it: tell us the collar's fastened circumference and the strap width when you order, and the portrait and collar sit together on the shelf. The lid lifts off for the ashes.
Indoors, outdoors or in the garden
The chalk off-white portrait, collar and wrapped urns are made for indoors, on a steady shelf, mantel or sideboard. The canopic jar urn can sit indoors or in a sheltered spot outside. If you would like a memorial for the garden as well, our pet memorial stones and grave markers are made for outdoors, and our pet garden memorial ideas show some gentle ways to mark a favourite spot.

Is it good to keep your dog's ashes at home?
There is no right or wrong answer. Some people find comfort in keeping their dog's ashes close, in a place the dog liked; others prefer to scatter or bury them. Many do both, keeping a small portion at home and scattering the rest. If you are still deciding, our guide to what to do with pet ashes walks through the options, and there is no rush: ashes still in the box is a common place to be.
What is the best urn for a dog's cremation?
The best urn is one that fits the ashes, suits the place it will live and feels like your dog. Check three things: the size (by their usual weight), where it will sit (indoors or a sheltered spot outside), and how you want to remember them, as a portrait, with their collar, or with their name. Our how to choose a pet urn guide and urn comparison go through each choice. If you are still arranging the cremation itself, pet cremation in the UK explained covers individual and communal cremation and what to ask.

How ordering works
- Choose the urn and the size by your dog's usual weight.
- Upload one to five photos and tell us about your dog.
- We send a digital proof before making.
- Your urn is cast in stone, finished by hand and sent with free tracked delivery.
Made-to-order pieces can't be cancelled once work starts and aren't returnable for a change of mind, but anything damaged or faulty is always put right, and your statutory rights still apply.
