How to care for your cast stone piece
Cast stone is durable, heavy, and built to last. With a little care, your piece will develop a natural patina and look better with age. Here is everything you need to know.
Outdoor pieces
Cast stone is designed for outdoor use and will weather naturally over time. Light moss and lichen growth is normal and adds character , most customers prefer it. If you want to keep the surface clean, use a stiff brush and plain water. Avoid pressure washers on detailed pieces as high pressure can erode fine surface detail over time.
In winter, very porous stone can occasionally crack if water penetrates deeply and freezes. Our cast stone mix is dense and low-absorption, so this is rare. If you live in an area with hard frosts, bringing smaller pieces under cover during the coldest months will extend their life.
Indoor pieces
Wipe with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, bleach, or acid-based products , these will damage the surface finish. A very light application of furniture wax once or twice a year will help protect polished or painted finishes.
Painted and sealed finishes
Some pieces leave our workshop with a painted or sealed finish. These can be touched up with standard stone or masonry paint if chips occur. Contact us and we can advise on the exact finish used on your piece.
Gold and metallic finishes
Our gold and metallic finishes are sealed with a protective lacquer. Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth. Avoid moisture on these finishes where possible , if the piece gets wet, dry it promptly with a soft cloth.
Mirror and glass pieces
The glass mirror tiles on our disco ball pieces are adhered and sealed. Clean with a soft dry or lightly damp cloth. Do not use glass cleaners containing ammonia , these can damage the adhesive over time and cause tiles to lift.
If something goes wrong
Cast stone can be repaired. Small chips can be filled with exterior filler tinted to match. For anything more significant, get in touch , we can advise or arrange a repair depending on the piece.
